Under the magnificent chandelier in Sophienstraße, in front of the Künstlerhaus, an impressive scenario is revealed to the onlooker. The majestic figure of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz is enthroned at the top left of the façade. The great scholar is depicted in his characteristic style - with a curly wig and clad in elegant robes, the Leibniz monument at the Künstlerhaus conveys an aura of statesmanlike dignity. The scholar's calm countenance bears witness to his profound intellectual vigour.
The Leibniz monument at the Künstlerhaus was created by the sculptor Carl Dopmeyer (1824-1899). With masterful craftsmanship and a deep understanding of the depiction of great personalities, Dopmeyer has created an ensemble that transports the viewer back in time and honours the importance of these outstanding scholars.
