The head of the polymath Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz cannot be overlooked as a gleaming golden bronze head on Opernplatz. At 2.5 metres tall, the Leibniz monument on Opernplatz is a real eye-catcher and has adorned the corner of Georgstraße and Operndreieck since 2008.
One side of the statue bears the polymath's motto "Unity in diversity", while the other side of the bronze head shows the binary number system. Leibniz recognised that all numerical values can be represented on the basis of two symbols and his ideas were far-reaching: the numbers zero and one are the basis of today's computers.
