Steintor bus stop: The Lego landscape

Steintor Busstop as a creative interface between art and everyday culture

The steintor bus stop is far more than just a functional stop on the transport network. It combines architectural design with a unique cultural concept. A cityscape recreated in LEGO® bricks unfolds on a clearly visible plateau above the waiting area. What appears playful at first glance turns out to be a multi-layered installation with a local connection on closer inspection.

A miniature world with high recognition value

The LEGO® landscape is characterised by familiar urban motifs - including streets, buildings, vehicles and everyday situations that are deliberately kept stereotypical. The result is a city in miniature format that offers universal legibility and yet does not lack location-specific echoes. The steintor bus stop thus becomes a projection surface for collective urban experience.

Cooperation with creative minds

The project was initiated by the Hanover Cultural Region Foundationwhich realised the concept in collaboration with regional and national creative professionals. The artistic idea came from Frank Meyer (Büro für Sicht- und Unsichtbares), whose work often mediates between design, urban development and fine art. The project was supported by the Üstra and the Hanover public transport (GVH).

A place for dialogue and slowing down

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the steintor bus stop represents an antithesis to haste. The LEGO® landscape encourages people to take a fresh look at the seemingly familiar. Whether consciously pausing while waiting for the train or spontaneously discovering something as you pass by - the installation appeals to a wide range of age groups and milieus. This aspect is becoming increasingly important in city centres in particular, as places for a high-quality culture of lingering are becoming more and more important.

Urban micro-experience with a vision

In addition to the creative impulse, the steintor bus stop also has an urban social function. It functions as a place of exchange and identification. The decision to bring art into the public space - not as a museum, but in the centre of everyday life - is a contribution to a lively urban culture. The visibility of urban art in the context of public transport contributes to the enhancement and positive perception of bus stops.
