Sophia Göken Large Ensemble - Jazz Week 2025
Event text
Brutalistic, honest, unconventional - the 17-piece ensemble of the fantastic composer Sophia Göken is a rock in the surf. Musicians and friends from Hanover and Hamburg are spreading a new sound in the modern jazz scene. Classical string quartet meets synthesiser, meets a highly versatile jazz line-up: flutes, bass clarinet, trumpet and trombone. The ensemble moves between orchestral depth, electronic density and improvisational openness. Each work is a story by the artist, programmatically set to music and text. And finds its way into the clubs of the metropolises.

Ruth Goller's Skylla - Jazz Week 2025
Event text
Ruth Goller was born in Italy and lives in the UK. Her music, characterised by detuned bass and layered vocals, is otherworldly and defiantly unclassifiable. They are distant, hissing siren songs from the Ice Age, echoing like something from a fever dream starring Björk, Meredith Monk and Mike Watt. Building on the completely original sound Goller established with her 2021 album "SKYLLA", her current compositions feature Tom Skinner, prolific British musician Seb Rochford, her International Anthem colleagues Bex Burch and Frank Rosaly, and her long-time Vula Viel partner Jim Hart.
Ruth Goller: el bass and voice, Alice Grant: voice, Rebecka Edlund: voice, Will Glaser: drums

Sheroes - Jazz Week 2025
Event text
The jazz supergroup SHEroes, led by pianist and composer Monika Herzig, honours Jazzwoche Hannover for the third time, once again with outstanding improvisation virtuosos, all of whom - not coincidentally - are women. Monika's skilful, always supportive piano playing and her warm, cheerful sensibility characterise every track. Monika Herzig's SHEroes presents a model of self-empowerment for all.
"SHEROES is a brilliant project involving some of my favourite musicians, spearheaded by Monika Herzig. It is soulful and thoughtful. I especially love their take on "Ain't No Mountain High Enough"- it captures the spirit of the group because there is no stopping great artists from making great music, as demonstrated on this stellar recording." TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON
