Who writes the rules we live by?
With a sharp eye and anarchic energy, Ulli Lust tells of the human condition in all its contradictory facets. Her works are radically honest, self-ironic and deeply solidary, yet uncomfortable, touching and liberating at the same time.
The exhibition shows key works from her autobiographical comic novels Today is the last day of the rest of your life and How I tried to be a good person. They tell of freedom and femininity, but also of taboos and shame. Ulli Lust places herself at the centre, observes instead of explaining - and holds a mirror up to us in the process.
With her comic essay, which won the German Non-Fiction Prize The woman as a human being Lust also dispels persistent myths about gender roles in early history. Complemented by portraits, reportages and graphic observations, a polyphonic panorama of human experiences emerges.
