Matthias Brodowy: "Folding chair and me"

(Simon Benne, HAZ, 2.5.22) Wonderfully quirky thoughts and apt observations with new songs - an evening in which time just flies by. How often do you hear the sentence "Time is racing away from us!" Matthias Brodowy slows down this spiral of time mercilessly. He takes his folding chair and sits down in different places for 10 hours at a time: "It all started with the hipster who fell into the gully. Or no, it actually all started with a burnout and the realisation that the day had to have 36 hours, which failed miserably despite all attempts to bend the space-time continuum. Thanks to a bargain-hunting Latin teacher, I suddenly came across this folding chair that showed me one thing: Nothing is more satirical than reality!" (M.B.)

In his reading, cabaret artist Matthias Brodowy presents a slow-motion road movie with quirky characters such as a very spook-prone undertaker, a policeman who is dressed far too tightly and an extremely ominous salsa teacher in a Baden café at the end of the world.

He will be musically supported by Christian "Chrille" Shulz, so the reading will be accompanied by numerous guitar sounds and catchy tunes.

Brodowy received the cabaret prize "Das schwarze Schaf" from Hanns Dieter Hüsch in 1999 and has been honoured with the "Prix Pantheon", the "Gaul von Niedersachsen" and the German Cabaret Prize, among others.

"Klappstuhl und ich!" is his eleventh programme. The Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung wrote about the premiere: "In their playful language, the literary miniatures are reminiscent of Max Goldt, especially when Brodowy loses himself in bizarre observations of details or takes the monstrous for granted in the best Kafka tradition.
