The GOP Varieté-Theater Hannover is a renowned venue for the art of variety theatre, which has been housed in the historic Georgspalast since 1992. With a varied programme of acrobatics, magic, comedy and music, the theatre offers entertainment at the highest level all year round.
The Georgspalast was built between 1912 and 1913 as a commercial and office building and developed into a popular dance café with jazz-orientated music in the 1920s. After the Second World War, Wilhelm Hirte opened the GOP Variety Theatre in 1948, which brought numerous well-known artists such as Josephine Baker, Heinz Erhardt and Zarah Leander to the stage in the 1950s. Due to growing competition from television, the theatre had to close in 1962. In 1992, the GOP was reopened by the Grote family and has since continued the glamorous tradition of days gone by.
The theatre impresses with its stylish architecture, which combines elements of the historic Georgspalast with modern design elements. The combination of understated architecture, stylish furniture and a fireplace creates a special atmosphere that makes the visit an experience.
The in-house restaurant "Gondel" offers a selection of exquisite dishes and fine wines before and after the performances. The cuisine combines regional specialities with international influences and places particular emphasis on quality and freshness. Special events such as the "Culinary Wine Journey" combine enjoyment and culture in a unique way.
