Indoor swimming pool - Kultur am Schachtweg

Hanover Region

Wolfsburg Cultural Centre

The Indoor swimming pool - Kultur am Schachtweg is a cultural centre in Wolfsburg, which is located in a former indoor swimming pool.

The Hallenbad - Kultur am Schachtweg in Wolfsburg is one of the most distinctive cultural centres in northern Germany. Since its opening in 2007, it has offered a diverse programme of music, theatre, film and art.

History and transformation

Originally opened in 1963 as a municipal indoor swimming pool, the building was closed in 2002 and reopened as a cultural centre in 2007 after extensive refurbishment. The remodelling was carried out by the architectural firm Neumann-Berking & Bendorf. Today, the former swimming pool serves as an event centre with original tiles and diving boards.

Event rooms and offers

The indoor pool has several stages:

  • Large stage: Former non-swimmers' pool with standing room for up to 1,000 people.
  • Small stage: capacity for 300 people.
  • Arthouse cinema: Offers space for 70 viewers and shows films from Sunday to Wednesday.
  • Sauna club: Located in the basement, offers space for 100 people and serves as a venue for concerts and parties.

There are also rehearsal rooms, a recording studio and the "art showcase", where works by regional artists are exhibited.

Approach

By train: Wolfsburg main station is about 10 minutes' walk away.

By car: Parking is available directly at the indoor pool and in a public car park next to the Penny supermarket (free of charge from 6 pm).

Accessibility: Barrier-free access is available; disabled parking spaces are accessible via the Kantallee access road.
