The Video Game Museum Hanover combines the past, present and future of digital gaming culture on several levels. Located in the Südstadt district, the exhibition offers an interactive journey through the history of arcade classics, home consoles and computer games on around 1000 square metres. With the name HI-SCORE the museum is not only a meeting place for retro fans, but also a place that visualises the cultural and social significance of video games.
A collection of playable devices awaits you in the exhibition: the exhibits range from the Atari 2600 to the Commodore 64 and the first PlayStation. Special attention is paid to the interactive stations - here you don't just watch, you play. Visitors have the opportunity to follow the development of graphics, sound and gameplay over several decades.
In addition to the hardware, there are thematic modules on the history of genres, the role of video games in pop culture and the development of developer studios. A wealth of background information, technical details and cultural-historical contexts provide in-depth knowledge without being pedagogical.
