The Ihme-Zentrum in Hanover, located in the Linden-Mitte district, is a striking building complex that has characterised the urban landscape since its opening in 1974. Originally designed as a modern residential, office and shopping centre, it was intended to promote an urban lifestyle and relieve pressure on the city centre.
With an area of around 160,000 square metres and around 860 residential units, the Ihme-Zentrum was one of the largest construction projects of its time. The Brutalist-style architecture and the concept of a "city within a city" reflected the zeitgeist of the 1970s.
