The Landesmuseum Hannover, also known as the Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum, is one of the most important cultural institutions in Lower Saxony. Located in Maschpark, opposite the New Town Hall, it offers a comprehensive collection divided into three main areas: NatureWorlds, PeopleWorlds and ArtWorlds. This division enables a structured presentation of natural history, archaeological, ethnological and art-historical exhibits.
Over 200 animal species are presented in the NaturWelten, representing various habitats such as the North Sea, the Amazon and the South Seas. The exhibition combines live animals with natural history specimens and offers insights into the history of the earth as well as current ecological relationships. Particularly noteworthy is the presentation of the climatic conditions of the Upper Jurassic, which shows parallels to today's tropical Caribbean.
MenschenWelten offers a comprehensive presentation of human development from the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages. Archaeological finds and ethnological objects illustrate cultural diversity and the effects of climate, wars and beliefs on society. A special focus is placed on the presentation of non-European cultures and the reflection of colonial perspectives.
KunstWelten presents works from the early Middle Ages to the Baroque period, including important altarpieces and sculptures. Among the outstanding exhibits are works by Lucas Cranach the Elder, Tilman Riemenschneider and Peter Paul Rubens. The collection offers an insight into the development of art up to the beginning of the 20th century.
