Kulturzentrum Pavillon: Centre for culture and society in Hanover

The Pavillon cultural centre in Hanover is an important venue for cultural events and social exchange. Since it was founded in 1977 by the citizens' initiative Raschplatz e.V., it has offered a varied programme that includes music, theatre, cabaret, readings and political discussions. With its central location on the Lister Meile, it is an integral part of cultural life in Hanover.

History and development

The Pavillon cultural centre building was originally constructed as a temporary department stores'. Following the demolition of the previous court prison, a flat-roofed building was erected here, which initially served as a retail space. In the 1970s, the citizens' initiative Raschplatz e.V. campaigned for the building to be converted into a cultural centre. The Pavillon cultural and communication centre was officially opened on 23 September 1977. Since then, it has developed into an important event venue in Hanover.

Range of events

The Pavillon cultural centre offers over 350 events every year. The programme includes concerts, theatre performances, cabaret, comedy, readings, exhibitions and political discussions. Particularly noteworthy is the MASALA World Beat Festival, which has been held at the Pavillon since 1995 and presents international artists.

Premises and equipment

After extensive renovation work, the Pavillon cultural centre was reopened in January 2014. It has several event rooms, including a large and a small hall as well as group rooms. There is a 400 square metre solar power system on the roof, which was installed in 2000 and is a visible sign of the centre's commitment to renewable energy.

Commitment and cooperation

The Pavillon cultural centre works with numerous groups, initiatives and institutions. It sees itself as an open centre that promotes cultural diversity and stimulates social debate. In addition to cultural events, it also offers space for political discussions, workshops and educational programmes.

Location and accessibility

The Pavillon cultural centre is located at Lister Meile 4 in 30161 Hanover, in the immediate vicinity of the main railway station. It is easily accessible by public transport and is centrally located in the city centre.
