The Petrikirche Hanover in the Kleefeld district is an outstanding example of neo-Gothic church architecture and an important cultural centre. With its imposing architecture and a history dating back to the 19th century, it attracts visitors and parishioners alike.
The origins of St Peter's Church date back to 1873, when the first chapel was built by Conrad Wilhelm Hase. Until 1883, the chapel congregation belonged to the garden church in Marienstraße before becoming independent and deciding to build its own church. The current church building was constructed between 1899 and 1901 according to the designs of Baurat Rudolph Eberhard Hillebrand. The church was consecrated in 1902 and has been an integral part of the Kleefeld neighbourhood ever since.
St Peter's Church is characterised by its neo-Gothic architecture, which is reflected in the use of Deister sandstone and the design of the 59-metre-high church tower. Inside, the church impresses with its high vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows and richly decorated interior. The church is also the seat of the superintendency of the Hanover South-East district.
