The Ricklinger gravel ponds in the south of Hanover offer a varied recreational landscape with three officially approved bathing lakes: the Großer Ricklinger Teich, the Dreiecksteich and the Sieben-Meter-Teich. The water quality of these lakes is regularly monitored and, according to current measurements, is well below the limits for Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci.
The Great Ricklinger Pond covers an area of 20.5 hectares. It is divided into northern and southern parts by an embankment, with the northern part lying between Ricklingen and the Leine. The bathing spots are located on the east bank north of the Südschnellweg motorway. The lake is used as fishing water by the Hanover Fishing Association.
The triangular pond, named after its shape, covers an area of 4.5 hectares. It is located in the southern part of Hanover and is a popular swimming lake without bathing supervision. There are sanitary facilities and a snack bar on the western bank.
The seven-metre pond, with an area of around 6 hectares, is located in the Döhren district. Although its name indicates a depth of seven metres, the maximum depth is actually 5.5 metres. The north bank is designated as a nudist area and has a jetty with ladders for access. The lake is also used by the Hanover Fishing Association.
The Ricklinger gravel ponds are part of the "Obere Leine" landscape conservation area and were created by gravel extraction in the second half of the 20th century. In addition to bathing opportunities, they also offer space for anglers, walkers and cyclists. The only disruptive factor is the Südschnellweg motorway, which crosses the area but is visually shielded by dense tree cover.
