SEA LIFE Hanover

Herrenhausen

Diverse underwater world in the adventure centre

SEA LIFE Hannover is one of the best-known marine exhibition centres in northern Germany and is a popular destination for visitors interested in marine habitats, biodiversity and sustainable environmental education. The biodiversity of seas, rivers and lakes from all over the world can be experienced in 37 lifelike tanks - embedded in a scientifically sound concept.

Location and architecture in the Berggarten

SEA LIFE Hannover is located in the historic Berggarten of the Herrenhausen Gardens, a traditional park ensemble with a botanical collection. The building itself integrates modern exhibition technology into a glass domed roof and blends seamlessly into the garden's architectural surroundings. This location makes it possible to combine nature, leisure and education.
Ecological theme worlds under one roof

Inside, a structured exhibition with regional and global habitats awaits you. The tour begins with northern German freshwater zones and leads through tropical river landscapes to oceanic habitats. Thematic stations such as the mangrove basin or the Amazon region show complex ecological relationships and offer detailed insights into the life of the respective animal species.

The acrylic glass ocean tunnel is a special feature. Here you cross an 8 metre long pool in which sharks, rays and other sea creatures glide above and alongside the visitor paths. The perspective promotes a vivid understanding of habitats below the surface of the water.

Educational mission and sustainability

SEA LIFE Hannover sees itself not only as an excursion destination, but also as an extracurricular learning centre. It teaches environmental and species conservation knowledge in cooperation with international organisations. Educational programmes are aimed at groups, families and interested adults alike. Didactically prepared information boards, events and interactive modules complement the exhibition.

Sustainability is a universal principle at SEA LIFE. The care of the animals, energy supply and water technology follow ecological standards. The facility is also involved in conservation programmes for endangered species, including seahorses and freshwater turtles.

Services and connection

A modern infrastructure is available for your visit. This includes barrier-free access, catering facilities and a shop with themed products. It is easy to get here by public transport, bicycle or car. Car parking spaces are available in the immediate vicinity.

SEA LIFE Hannover is a scientifically based information centre on the world of water. With a sophisticated mix of exhibition, education and environmental commitment, it provides in-depth knowledge and raises awareness of global connections in the field of water ecology.
