The State Museum houses paintings and sculptures from the 14th to 20th centuries as well as important exhibits from the fields of archaeology, ethnology and natural history. Not far from the Maschsee, Lower Saxony's largest state museum invites you on a journey around the world: From seahorses to dinosaurs, gold treasures and bog mummies to paintings by Lukas Cranach, Peter Paul Rubens and Nicolas Poussin, the five major collections of the State Museum can be discovered in the NatureWorlds, HumanWorlds and ArtWorlds.
The NatureWorlds offer insights into current and past habitats through the unique combination of taxidermy and living animals. There are also regular special exhibitions and a wide range of events for all ages. A café and a well-stocked museum shop round off the offer.
As part of the "Free Fridays", admission is free every Friday between 2 and 6 pm.
