The Sonnensee lake in Hannover is part of a sports and leisure complex in the north-east of the city. It is located on the edge of the Altwarmbüchener Moor / Ahltener Wald landscape conservation area and offers sandy beaches in the shallow water area and a swimming stadium with a jetty.
Guests and members of the Federation for Family Sport and Free Living e.V. (BffL) have access to the facility with catering, sauna, sanitary facilities and bicycle rental. In addition, the German Sport Badge can be completed at the BffL facility.
But there is also a wide range of other sports on offer: table tennis, petanque, ring tennis, giant chess or beach volleyball can be played to your heart's content at Sonnensee. There is also a fitness course and a varied playground near the beach. Otherwise, the lake invites you to take leisurely walks in addition to countless water activities such as stand-up paddling, diving and swimming.
The lake is regularly inspected by the health authorities to monitor the water quality. If blue-green algae or toxin-forming blue-green algae appear in large quantities, appropriate warnings and bathing bans are issued.
