New Model Army

Formed in Bradford in 1980, New Model Army's beginnings were inspired by Northern Soul, Punk Rock and the riotous atmosphere of the time. Since then they have had a long, creative and eventful journey. They have been massively influenced by "post-punk", "folk rock", "political rock", "goth", "metal" and all kinds of musical subcultures, but they steadfastly refused to belong to any one club or style.

Without a specific "genre" audience and not yet a massive worldwide hit, New Model Army still sell albums in the millions, attract some of the biggest producers in the world (Glyn Johns, Tom Dowd, Andy Wallace, Bob Clearmountain, Joe Barresi) and have built an almost religious devotion among their fans.

They realised early on that the internet would revolutionise the music industry and decided in the mid-1990s to control all aspects of their productions independently and by themselves. As a result, they were perfectly positioned to withstand the changes in the industry and have outlasted most of their peers. There are few bands in the position of NMA who are able to record and release what they want, when they want and maintain a worldwide following without having to make a single artistic or commercial compromise.

In recent years, the band's critical and commercial fortunes have also recovered. The albums "Between Dog and Wolf" and "Between Wine and Blood" (2013/14) and "Winter" (2016) have put the band back in the mainstream charts and increased their concert audience once again. 2019 will see the release of the brand new album "From Here", which was recorded on the small Norwegian island of Giske against a backdrop of the sea, mountains and current world events.

Originally a three-piece, the five-piece band currently consists of Justin Sullivan (lead vocals and guitar), Michael Dean (drums), Dean White (keyboards and guitar), Marshall Gill (guitar) and Ceri Monger (bass).

This is a remarkable band - as hungry and focussed as ever, with an ever-changing audience and insatiable creative ambition.
