Sarah FlohrTens of thousands of visitors every year, standing ovations and a fan cult like that of rock stars: the duo Café del Mundo is Germany's most successful guitar export. With their unique blend of flamenco, classical music, jazz, pop and rock, Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian completely redefine the classical guitar instrument.
They seem like „fire and water“ - and it is precisely from this tension that they draw their magical energy. The protagonists Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian could not be more different in character, but on stage they merge into a world-class unit. Their live performances are rousing dialogues that regularly sweep audiences off their feet. The Süddeutsche Zeitung summed it up with the title „audibly boundless“.
Café del Mundo proves that the flamenco guitar can grow far beyond traditional folklore. Their repertoire builds a bold bridge between the worlds. Alexander Kilian, a graduate jazz guitarist and „guitar prodigy“, explains the duo's vision: „We see our contribution to the guitar as bringing this wonderful instrument to the world of entertainment. Out of the niche - and worldwide.“ This vision has already taken them to legendary places such as the Abbey Road Studios in London and for recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The duo Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian came together at a workshop in 2007. Since then, they have released over ten albums and established themselves as an integral part of the international instrumental scene. Their style combines Andalusian tradition with modern influences from pop, rock and electronic music.
In a time characterised by digital transience, Pascal and Kilian are making a conscious statement in favour of „Pura Música“. And their success proves them right: millions of views on YouTube (including their hit arrangement of „Viva la Vida“ with 1.6 million views) and over 250 million streams on Instagram show the enormous reach of their „Guitartainment“. Whether on a Europe-wide tour with orchestra or solo in front of 4,000 visitors in the SAP Arena in Mannheim - Café del Mundo electrifies across generations.
