Stygian Bough is the result of an intensive collaboration between the funeral doom metal band BELL WITCH (Dylan Desmond, Jesse Shreibman) and AERIAL RUIN, the dark folk project of Erik Moggridge.

Since Bell Witch's debut album Longing (2012), Moggridge has been a constant guest in the sound world of Bell Witch. This long-standing connection eventually gave rise to an independent project: STYGIAN BOUGH. The name refers to James Frazer's hugely influential anthropological comparative study The Golden Bough and hints at the conceptual aspiration - music as a magical bond that inextricably links listener and sound. With Volume I (2020), the trio presented a masterpiece that fused doomy heaviness with fragile melody. An epic chunk of music, a deeply moving journey through dark dreams and landscapes of epic violence, Volume II is now imminent and promises to explore this alchemical connection even deeper.
