Hanover's city history in the Leibniz Frieze

The Leibniz frieze on the façade of the New town hall to Platz der Menschenrechte shows important scenes from Hannover's city history.

Karl Gundelach created this depiction, which is in line with the major events in the city's history. The city model in the entrance hall from 1689 shows the city at the time of Leibniz.

One notable scene is the Electress Sophie placing a laurel wreath on Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz's head in 1680. Leibniz remained loyal to the city due to his close relationship with Sophie and had legendary conversations with her in the Herrenhausen Gardens.

Further depictions and scenes in the Leibniz Frieze can be viewed at the New Town Hall, while the relevant information is available at here to read.
