Lindener Berg

Linden centre

Hanover's historical gem with a vision

At 89 metres above sea level, Lindener Berg is one of the highest natural elevations in Hanover and offers a fascinating mix of history, nature and culture.

Historical significance and sights

The Linden Tower, originally built in 1392 as a watch tower, was converted into a Dutch windmill in the 17th century. Today it houses a popular beer garden that invites you to linger.

Another highlight is the elevated water tank, a 19th century structure built in the style of a medieval fortress, which once secured the city's drinking water supply. On its roof is the Hanover Observatory, which regularly offers public observations of the sky.

Nature experience and events

The Lindener Bergfriedhof cemetery, established in 1862, is now a green oasis and a listed building. Especially in spring, the blossoming of the Siberian blue aster (Scilla siberica) attracts numerous visitors when the cemetery is bathed in a bright blue colour.

The kitchen garden pavilion, a listed pavilion from the 18th century, now serves as an exhibition space and offers insights into the history of Linden.

Leisure and views

The Lindener Berg is a popular place for walks and offers an impressive view over Hanover as far as the Deister on a clear day. The viewpoint near the former toboggan slope is particularly recommended.

There are also regular events on the Lindener Berg, such as the "Lindener Berg Kriterium", a challenging cycle race that takes place every year on 1 May.
