Venue for young theatre in Hanover

Ballhof Zwei in Hanover's historic city centre is a central venue for the Junge Schauspiel and Junge Oper Hannover. Since its opening in 1990, the polygonal building has provided space for contemporary theatre, opera productions and projects with young people.

Architecture and history

Ballhof Zwei was built in 1990 by architect Thilo Mucke as a polygonal corner building on Knochenhauerstraße. Originally conceived as a rehearsal stage, Ballhof Zwei quickly developed into an independent venue for the Junge Schauspiel and Junge Oper Hannover. With around 126 seats, the hall offers an intimate atmosphere for contemporary theatre and opera productions.

Use and programme

Ballhof Zwei serves as a stage for the Young Theatre and Young Opera Hanover. It also offers young people the opportunity to take to the stage themselves in theatre youth clubs.

Ballhof Café and "House of Many"

Ballhof Zwei is home to the Ballhof Café, which is run independently by young people from different walks of life. Under the name "House of Many", they curate a programme of productions, concerts and readings and offer young artists opportunities to perform.
