E-drive converted double-decker bus

During the summer season, a hybrid double-decker supplements the electric bus on Saturdays to meet the higher demand.
The e-bus combines comfort with modern technology and allows visitors to discover the sights of Hanover emission-free. The switch to electromobility not only reduces CO₂ emissions, but also ensures a quieter journey - a benefit for the environment and the cityscape alike. 73 seats are available on the bus. Its battery capacity is 240 kWh (by comparison, an average car has around 60-75 kWh). This gives it a range of around 200 kilometres. A hop-on hop-off tour through Hanover is 24 kilometres. In total, the double-decker covers around 130 kilometres a day, including the journey to and from the depot. The vehicle can be charged with 150 kW in 90 minutes or with 22 kW in 8 to 10 hours - and exclusively with green electricity.

Six battery packs are installed in the vehicle. Unlike conventional buses, where the batteries are installed on the roof, the batteries in the "convertible" are located in the passenger compartment.

Hanover is part of the nationwide project to convert city sightseeing buses to electric drives
The project "Conversion of 25 double-decker city tour buses for authorised regular services in a total of nine cities in Germany to battery-powered electric vehicles as depot chargers" is being funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) with a total of 6.5 million euros as part of the "Directive on the promotion of buses with alternative drive systems in passenger transport". Funding for this measure is also being provided as part of the German Recovery and Resilience Plan (DARP) via the European Recovery and Resilience Facilities (ARF) in the NextGenerationEU programme. The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Project Management Jülich (PtJ).
